Leave the pub carefully crossing the road into Angel Lane opposite. Follow this gravel bridleway, past the dwellings turning left at the cross track then next right towards Coneygar Farm. Just before reaching the farm entrance join the narrow signed footpath ahead, cross the stile and make for the gate on the left. Keeping close to the hedge walk up to the bridge, cross into the field and turn left along the well beaten path beside the ditch, through the trees and out into Ham Lane.

Carefully cross to the bridleway opposite signposted, Park Road `1/2 mile. Ignore the track on the left but continue walking until you reach the stile then cross into the field on the left and turn left following the newly fenced path around the gravel workings. The path is well signed needing little explanation. Upon reaching the stile cross into the field on the right and make your way across to the far hedge bearing left to reach the stile. Turn left along the track them left again at the main road.

Just before reaching the thatched cottage cross over and join the river footpath signposted between the large house and the factory. Narrow at first it soon widens to a well maintained area of grass stretching between the golf course and the river bank. Many colourful dragonflies and butterflies can be seen in summer flying between teasels, purple loosestrife and yellow tansy. Cross the wooden bridge and climb the steep hill to reach the path at the top, turn left onto the tarred drive, walk up to the road and turn left.

Keeping to the wide grass verge cross over when you are opposite the footpath signposted, Heathlands Avenue following it up into the woods. A little care is now necessary to successfully negotiate your way through. First fork left following the well beaten path uphill through tall pines forking left again at the top. Disregarding the side paths keep straight ahead until you reach the point where the path rises over the bank ahead then bear left to pick up the path between the rhododendron bushes. Ignore the signed path on the left between two large oaks but continue ahead until you reach the clearing at which point turn left following the narrow path along the edge of the wood leading back into the woods. Fork left at the next path junction (waymarked) after which the path passes beside a field on the right before joining a track leading to the road at which point turn right back to the pub.
