The Future

"We are an ambitious independent family brewer developing people, pubs, and beers to be proud of".

Following 18 months of preparation, planning and consultation with the public and local authorities, Hall and Woodhouse submitted it's planning application for a mixed use development in December.

The proposals have been developed in consultation with North Dorset District Council as part of a pilot initiative from the Deputy Prime Minister's office to streamline large, complex planning applications. Under the scheme, developers and local authorities work together on planning applications to agree timescales for decisions.

In brief, our proposals include:

  • A mixed use development comprising residential and commercial space which complements both Blandford Forum and Blandford St Mary.
  • A new, modern brewery, which is environmentally friendly with increased energy efficiency and reduced odour emissions designed to complement the local environment, which will sit at the heart of the Community.
  • The provision of a visually pleasing landscape including an open piazza, which will link Tesco to Blandford Forum town centre. Highway improvements, including road calming measures, to enhance safety on the surrounding roads.
  • We anticipate a decision on the planning application in Summer 2007.

For additional information regarding the development please refer to the Non Technical Summary.

Vision

Already the leading and fastest growing regional brewer of bottled ales, Hall & Woodhouse has very clear visions for the future. Growing the ale market with both its award winning premium bottled ales and cask ales is top on the agenda, together with being the best supplier in the category and building a business that others aspire to join.

New Brewery

Hall & Woodhouse is seeking to redevelop its brewery site, to build a new up to date and efficient brewery.

The company has been selected to pilot an initiative from the Deputy Prime Minister's office to streamline large, complex planning applications. Under the scheme, developers and local authorities will work together on planning applications to agree timescales for decisions - an initiative which could dramatically reduce delays in planning decisions on large-scale projects. In terms of the New Brewery development, this could increase the efficiency of the planning and development process and bring forward the timescale for completion.

Hall & Woodhouse and appointed architects Morgan Carey have assembled a team of experts including representation from engineering, conservation, ecology and archaeology sectors among others, are now in the process of developing initial ideas for the site based on public consultation feedback. Discussions are also taking place with representatives from North Dorset District Council, Dorset County Council, English Heritage, Environment Agency and Wessex Water.

New product development

Hall & Woodhouse's commitment to brewing delicious and innovatory new beers is recognised by its fourth Tesco Brewing Award - a first in the brewing industry. In October 2007 the new dark, full bodied liquorice and damson flavoured ale (5.7% ABV) will hit Tesco's shelves. This ale has a rich malt character enhanced by fruity and spicy liquorice notes and a subtle but smoothing hoppiness.

Watch out for new Badger ales to taste!
