At Hall & Woodhouse we are extremely proud of our Brewing Heritage and the delicious award winning Ales our Brewing Team creates. Below are some of our achievements to date, watch this space as we hope to keep adding to it with future awards.
Gold for Badger First Gold
In October 2005, following in the footsteps of Badger Ales before it, Badger First Gold was voted 'World Champion Packaged Ale', winning two Gold Medals at the prestigious Brewing Industry International Awards (the Brewing equivalent of the Oscars).
Badger First Gold won Gold for best in category (International Bottled Ale between 2.5 % ABV and 4.3% ABV) as well as being voted overall "Champion Beer" of the category.
The judges said, "Badger First Gold is something special, it is a great bottled beer, which really outshone the competition."
Tanglefoot Triumph
One of our most traditional ales, Tanglefoot is also an International award winner.
In 1987 Tanglefoot also won Double Gold at the Brewing Industry International Awards. Not only was Tanglefoot judged the best draught cask ale in its class (45-50 OG), but Tanglefoot was also awarded the enviable accolade of overall winner.
In 2000 Tanglefoot, along with over 230 beers from around the world, were entered in the OLN's (Off License News) International Beer and Cider Competition. A panel of 40 experts judged all entries on taste design and image. Each of the 17 categories was awarded a gold, silver and bronze winner.
"This competition is unique in the beer and cider sector as it judges products from a consumer perspective. Judging is based on a combination of packaging design, taste and drinkability. After all, a wonderfully tasting product is not going to sell in an off-licence if its packaging is badly designed." -
Kate Oppenheim, editor, OLN
Tanglefoot Strong Ale won the Bronze award in the highly competitive category for Premium Ales (4.3% to 7.5% ABV).
The Impeccable Taste of Tesco
Hall & Woodhouse have a long established and successful relationship with one of the UK's largest Supermarkets, Tesco. On an annual basis, Tesco holds the Tesco Brewing Awards, where entrants have to brew a completely new beer. All the beers are judged by a team of experts; the overall winning beer is then put into production and distributed throughout the Tesco's stores in the UK.
Hall & Woodhouse is the only Brewery to have won this highly regarded prize four times (so far...).
In 1998, Golden Champion (5.0 ABV) wowed judges with its subtle hint of elderflower on win the award. In 2001, Golden Glory (4.5 ABV) delighted, with its peach blossom and melon undertones to win the award and 2005 saw England's Gold (4.6 ABV) steal the prize with its 'quintessentially English' character to win the award.
Our latest victory came on the 29th of September 2006, when it was announced that Hall & Woodhouse had once again won the Tesco Brewing Award, with a yet to be named ale, brewed with the subtle addition of Liquorice and Damson 5.7 ABV.
Blandford Fly 5.2 ABV also received high acclaim in 2000 coming runner up.
Victory In Europe
2006 has hailed well for Badger Beers in European competition. Recently we have learned that England's Gold received Gold in the Golden Bitter Category and Golden Champion received Gold in the Best Bitter category at the European Beer Star International Breweries Competition 2006. Also receiving Silver in the English Style Ale category was Badger First Gold. In short all three ales that were entered, despite fierce competition were medal winners!
